Sun Damage

Living in Queensland means lifelong exposure to some of the highest UV levels in the world. Even with good sun protection habits, cumulative sun exposure over many years can lead to gradual structural changes in the skin. This generalised sun damage may appear as uneven pigmentation, redness, visible blood vessels, rough texture, enlarged pores, fine lines, and reduced skin resilience.

Sun damage is not simply a cosmetic concern — ultraviolet radiation affects collagen, elastin, blood vessels, and normal skin cell turnover. Because these changes occur at multiple levels within the skin, effective treatment requires accurate assessment and a structured, layered approach.

Getting the right diagnosis is the first step in creating a treatment plan that will work for you.

At Gold Coast Dermatology Clinic our practitioners assess your skin using visual examination, dermoscopy, clinical imaging, and serial photography where appropriate.

After determining the extent and pattern of photodamage, your treatment plan may include:

  • Preventative and prescription skin care to repair and protect sun-damaged skin

  • Treatments to improve uneven pigmentation and sun spots

  • Collagen-stimulating treatments to strengthen and support skin structure

  • Energy-based treatments such as IPL or laser to address redness, vascular change, and photodamage

  • Resurfacing treatments to improve overall skin quality and texture.
