+ WHAT IS SMARTXIDE DOT THERAPY?

DOT Therapy delivers a CO2 laser beam divided into thousands of microscopic treatment zones (Dots) that target a fraction of the skin at a time. These treatments zones cause thermal damage to underlying collagen and elastin, to stimulate the production of new fibres. The ability to ‘fractionate’ the laser allows quicker healing times, lower risks of side effects and less downtime for the patient than traditional fully ablative laser.

Dr Davidson treats a variety of issues including, sun damage, wrinkles, acne scarring and age spots.

Dependent on what condition is being treatment, an initial course of 1-3 treatments is recommended. For sun damage, rejuvenation and anti-aging effects, usually an annual maintenance treatment is required for the benefits to be maintained.

+ WHAT IS INVOLVED IN THE PROCEDURE?

1. Patients arrive an hour prior to the procedure.
2. Images of the treatment area are taken and topical numbing cream is applied - numbing cream remains on for 1 hour.
3. Safety eye goggles are fitted for all patients prior to starting the laser treatment.
4. As the laser device is used to treat your skin, you will hear some buzzing noises, and whilst the numbing cream is very effective, patients can feel warmth in their skin and may experience some discomfort.
5. A healing balm and suncream is applied immediately after the treatment, and each patient is given after care instructions.

+ WHAT IS THE RECOVERY TIME?

When patients leave the treatment, their face is a little bit red - like a sunburn.

Over the course of 24-48 hours that patient will develop increased swelling and facial redness becomes more prominent. There can also be areas of spot bleeding. This is very normal.

We encourage all patients to attend the clinic for a Healite treatment 2 days after their laser treatment. Patients can expect down time of 7-10 days. During which time we suggest, no vigorous activities, no saunas or hot spas and sleeping propped up on 2 pillows to help with swelling.

+ HOW MANY TREATMENTS SHOULD I DO?

All patients are different, however we recommend up to 3 treatments for most conditions.

+ What is involved in the procedure?

Coolpeel is a very well tolerated procedure. Many patients have the treatment with no topical numbing cream, however it is much more pleasant with it.

First your face is cleansed, numbing cream may be applied, you wear safety goggles to protect your eyes and then usually beginning at the forehead, the entire face is treated. Patients experience a slight tingling sensation during the treatment.

A healing balm and suncream is applied immediately after the treatment, and each patient is given after care instructions.

+ What is the recovery time?

Your face is a little bit pink at first, it then is mildly swollen over the course of 3-4 days. Makeup can be worn the next day, patients must stay out of the sun and regularly apply moisturiser.

+ How many treatments should I do?

All patients are different, however we recommend 3 treatments for most conditions.
